THE PROBLEM
- Yorubas produce less than 50% of the food they consume.
- Most of the processed foods we consume are imported, yet we have the capacity to do our own processing.
- Yorubas have abandoned our food basket – the rural areas.
- We can’t have a viable Yoruba region unless we are agriculturally and economically independent.
- Yorubas have abandoned our food basket – the rural areas.
- We have rich soil and can feed the whole of Nigeria if we apply our minds and resources to it.
- Our youths are not encouraged to embrace agriculture as a viable profession.
- Yorubas in Nigeria and the diaspora have the human resources and technological know-how to be leaders in almost any field of endeavour.
THE SOLUTION
Members of the cooperative are therefore trained in various agro-related fields such as: Organic farming, Animal Husbandry, Agro Processing & Marketing, Bookkeeping and accounting, Agricultural building technology, Equipment fabrication and repairs .
- Develop model Integrated Farm and Training Centers .
- Develop a Farmers Cooperative .
- Establish an Agro-processing and packaging unit .
- Establish Ko’ya farmers market and Produce Marketing Board for export .
- Develop Ko’ya Agro Machine and Equipment Fabrication .
- Develop model Integrated Farm and Training Centers .
- Yoruba Ko’ya will source for funds and resources from within Yorùbá land, the diaspora, and organizations such as Africa Development Bank (AfDB), IITA, etc.
THE TEAM
Yoruba Ko‘ya leadership consists of dedicated, hardworking and focused men and women in Nigeria and the diaspora who are interested in the emancipation of Yoruba people.
The Foundation’s Entrepreneurship spirits of members as volunteers on Agriculture, Agro Processing and Agro Marketing has been developed to consist of four independent Teams. Each team is headed by a department head:
- The Green Team – Agricultural and Food Production – crops and animal husbandry.
- The Black Team (Vocational Skills Acquisition – Shoe making, tailoring, fashion design, beauty therapy, etc), Marketing Board, etc.
- The Red Team – Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship (Information and Communication Technology, Digital Media Marketing, Solar Energy Technology, Robotics, Drones, Logistics Management Equipment, Machinery, Tools Fabrication, etc).
- The Blue Team – Cultural Revival, Outreach, and promotion.
