Gbolagade Olarewaju (Lanre) Babalola is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist currently in a group practice in Newbugh, New York. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Until recently he ran his own private OBGYN practice – Alafia OBGYN and Women’s Healthcare, LLC in Millville, NJ for 11 years.

He had his early education in Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria. He then proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he obtained the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1978.

After the one year of National Youth Service and a short stint at a private Veterinary practice – Kob Veterinary Consultants – both in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, he returned to the University of Ibadan as a lecturer. He lectured, did research and practice Veterinary Medicine in the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Reproduction at the University of Ibadan until 1983 when he moved to the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA to continue veterinary surgical training and study.

In further pursuit of study and learning, Dr. Babalola worked hard to balance family and other civic involvement and interests in Nigerian activities to obtain a Ph.D. degree in Comparative Medical Sciences in the Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1990. He did postgraduate research in Molecular Biology of Reproduction at both the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Babalola, later had a change in carrier to human medicine; he got a degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in 2000 and underwent a residency and board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Despite all these busy life with personal education, learning, study and professional development, Dr. Babalola involved himself in civic organizational activities starting as far back as his arrival in the United States.

He played leadership roles in –

  • The Forum for the Advancement of Nigeria – founding member and President (formerly)
  • Yoruba Development and Cultural Organization (later became Egbe Omo Yoruba, Delaware Valley) – founding member and Executive Director (formerly)
  • Ajobi Investment Group (now defunct) – President

Professional Membership and Affiliations include –

  • American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG)
  • American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
  • American Medical Association (AMA)

Dr. Babalola is actively pursuing philanthropic activities and has donated to and continue to donate to many non-profit organizations including but not limited to these few – Doctors Without Border, World Wide Fund, The Planned Parenthood, National Public Radio (Philadelphia area’s WHYY), March of Dimes, Egbe Omo Yoruba’s Moremi Foundation, Yoruba Koya Leadership and Training Foundation, Disabled American Veterans, The Smithsonian and so on.
